Updated: Oct 11, 2019

Nowadays with the virtual world developing so fast it is easy to get an extanded amount of information, but is it all true?

In the Internet World everyone can write a statement on different topics. Scrolling through our social media feed we can run into a large amout of information which most of the time we take as a valid information but because of being devided by a screen we don't always know who wrote what we are reading.

To recognize a fake news on social media is not that hard nor is it easy.

1. Trusted Sources

The first method we suggest to figure out the truth of a news is to search in any searching engine about that news and to see if it is mentioned in nay other websites/ social medias or if it is mentioned by a trusted newspaper or public figures.

For example many people got access to write a statement on Facebook but this doesn't stand for BBC News.

2. Be Critical

The second method to define a news true or false is by being sceptical. What we mean by that is that you have to develope a critical mindset. In this way you won't trust right away a statement because you will need good arguments and a good evidence for that.

However you need to be careful even by being sceptical because you will not always get the right feeling.

You also got to check how right it sounds while you read it. Is it believable enough?

3. See Other Peoples' Reaction to the News

Another way of noticing if the news you are reading is suspecious or not is to see how many people have reported it as a fake news lately. You will be lookig at the fame of the news. This is a good and easy method of investigation because you will just see what people, who run through the post before you, think of this news. You can check their comments in the comment section area (every social media site got a comment section) and get a better idea about the truth of the news.

4. Suspecious Content Attached to the News

Examine the given information and detect if there is any fake content attached to it such as pictures or videos. Also check the writing; see if there is any grammatical mistake or if the used language is not formal.

Pictures and videos are easy to identify if they are real or fake no matter how good the editor is. So keep in mind to examine the information you are taking.

The Impact of a Fake News
